Paula Dietzsch

Assistant Coach

My experience in competitive swimming began when I started swimming competitively as a 9th grader on a junior high school team.  After experiencing some success on the high school team, I began swimming year-round after my 10th grade season.  I held several records at my high school (Blaine High School) and was a captain in my senior year.  In 1979, while swimming with ABC Aquatics Club, I was a member of a 200 medley relay team that turned in the 7th fastest time in the nation.  After high school, I attended St. Cloud State University and was a member of the swim team for two years and was a record-holder for the 100 yard breaststroke.  I graduated from St. Cloud State University in 1985 with a bachelor of science in mathematics and a coaching minor.

After college, I was hired to fill a one-year teaching position at Oak-Land Junior High, and I had the opportunity to coach the junior high girls’ team there as well.  In 1989, I accepted teaching and swim coaching position in Waseca, MN.  Not only was I the head coach of the Waseca girls swim team, but also for the Waseca Swim Club.  By the end of my stay in Waseca, the swim team had gone from the back of the pack in the conference to placing second at our conference championship.  I had several swimmers and relay teams qualify for the state championships (before the two-tier system) and one of my swimmers placed second in her individual event.  After moving back to the Twin Cities in the early 90s and becoming a teacher for South Washington County Schools, I also held positions as an assistant coach for the Woodbury Girls team for several years, and was an assistant and eventually a head coach for the Oltman Junior High Girls' Swim team.

For the last nineteen years, I have been concentrating on my teaching position at Woodbury High School and raising my own two children.  When my son, Ross, developed a love for the sport of swimming several years ago, it rekindled my desire to coach.  I accepted a position as an assistant coach with the Hastings Area Swim and also jumped at the chance to be an assistant coach with the Park Boys’ Swim Team in 2013.    I truly enjoy working with young people, and I again look forward to working with the Park swimmers, coaches, and the parents.
